Illinois rats are not just omnivores but are in fact one of the most disgusting eating dieters. They scurrage through garbage, eat moldy food, rummage through rubbish you name it. They are perfectly happy digging through all this stuff to find something good to snack on. Rats will also eat other insects that are feeding on rotten food at the time. We say rats are gross but that is much an understatement. While we say about all the things they eat there are a few things rats won't actually eat.
Chicago rats are happy to make a meal or two out of anything however one thing they don't jump at the opportunity for eating dog poop. Rodents are attracted to shocking smells much like the strong odor dog poop entails that can linger around for days but dog poop seems to be a line they simply won't cross.
People have thought dog poop is something rats love full of waste heaps of it and the smell is so shocking however dog feces is a food they will not consume. We don't exactly know the reason why rats don't eat dog poop. Funny enough rats will eat rabbit droppings and cat poop but there is something in dog's piles that seem to deter them away.
For those suffering with an Illinois rat problem while there are poisons around, ultra-sonic deterrents and other methods meant to keep rats out but however if it doesn't bother you, try a little dog poop near your bins and rubbish piles. We know they don't like dog poop but we are not going to let our backyard become covered in poop to avoid rats, are we? Certainly not instead try the urine deterrent. It's a spray to place in common spots you have seen rats and once they smell the scent of a predator they will try to get out of your backyard as soon as possible . Rats breed quickly and once they have started it soon turns into an infestation and then you are over run by rats and the normal methods and deterrents won't get rid of them.
Illinois rats carry several diseases that can be fatal to humans and these are spread from rat to rat and soon they are just a walking disease bank.
They eat garbage, sleep in all sorts of places they are just filthy animals best kept out of your home.
While dog poop may deter them we don't know for sure. You don't want to use it as a deterrent and risk standing in the stuff then washing your shoes and being left with the strong smell up your nostrils.
Kids can fall in it while playing in the backyard so let's stick to typical methods of Chicago rat deterrents and opt for a predator spray that will deter them away quickly and is safe and hygienic around the whole family.
